Who runs this
eSpeedZone is written by Ethan, a teenager who wanted a racing sim setup and couldn’t afford the ones being recommended online. His parents are involved: they hold any business accounts, review the site, and are part of decisions about what gets published.
He publishes his first name only. No school, no address, no identifying photos of where he lives. Photo location data is stripped from every image before it goes up.
What does it actually cost?
A genuinely usable starting setup is around $230–$300: a force-feedback wheel with pedals, mounted to a desk you already own, using a TV you already own.
You will see setups online costing thousands. Those are the equivalent of a road bike costing more than a car — real, but not where anyone starts.
How much space does it need?
Less than most people expect. A clamp-on wheel needs a desk and a chair. A dedicated stand folds away in many cases. The rig does not need a room of its own to begin with.
Will it actually get used?
Honest answer: it depends on the kid, and nobody can promise otherwise. What we’d suggest — start at the bottom tier. A $230 wheel that gets used every day is a far better outcome than an $800 setup that gathers dust. Everything on this site is built to be upgraded in pieces, not replaced.
Is it safe?
- The gear itself is consumer electronics. A wheel clamped badly to a desk can fall; a stand should be stable before anyone leans on it.
